As an educator, I continually strive to create a positive learning environment for my students. Recently, during a class with 23 ninth graders, I noticed their warm greetings and smiles as they entered the classroom. This prompted me to reflect on the factors contributing to this positive atmosphere.

In our conversation, Noa helped me explore how my eagerness to build relationships with the children likely impacted their attitudes. I recognized that my warm demeanor—greeting them with a smile and maintaining eye contact—promoted approachability and comfort. Additionally, the brightness of the classroom played a role in keeping them focused and motivated, despite the lack of visual stimuli or technology.

I felt encouraged by these observations and insights. The realization that unfamiliar smiling faces can foster a welcoming environment was particularly enlightening. Moving forward, I am committed to maintaining a positive demeanor by continuing to smile and adopting a relaxed posture. I also plan to align my language with their level to encourage open communication.

Furthermore, I aim to create engaging activities that promote active learning through group work, pair work, inductive learning, and real-world experiences. These strategies will not only enhance student engagement but also contribute to a healthy space for children to learn.

Reflecting on this experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of fostering relationships and creating an inviting classroom atmosphere. As educators, we have the power to influence our students' attitudes significantly—let's embrace that responsibility.
